Winter Storm Lunch Talk: Rochelle Newman (HESP) - Lunch Provided
Join us for the first faculty lunch talk at Winter Storm 2016. Lunch will be provided by Zoe Schlueter & Alix Kowalski.
Speaker: Rochelle Newman
Title: Language and Concussion
Abstract: Although most of my work focuses on speech perception in adults and infants, particularly on listening in noise, this talk is going to be on an entirely unrelated topic: language and concussion. Concussions are a major topic in the media of late, as a result of a growing public awareness of the effects of concussion on cognitive abilities. I will be talking about two recent research projects in this domain, one exploring word-finding (or lexical access) in adolescents recovering from concussion, and the second attempting to develop a new assessment for concussion in young children (aged 5-10 years) based on their language abilities.
