My research aims to specify the relationship between syntactic parsing (as in comprehension) and syntactic generation (as in production). There is a recent interest in unifying these two mechanisms; however, one challenge for such integration is apparent differences in temporal granularity between syntactic processing involved in comprehension and those involved in production. For example, it is often assumed that production is often taken to be less incremental than comprehension. However, this assumption has only started to be under experimental scrutiny. Thus, I aim to specify what operations are carried out in what temporal order to construct a certain syntactic representation, both in comprehension and in production. To this end, I utilize online measurements in sentence comprehension, including the self-paced reading and ERPs, and chronometric measurements in sentence production, including sentence-level picture-word interference task.
