My main area of research currently consists of several research projects aimed at linking Bayesian inference to various phonological processes in monolingual adults and bilingual children. In one project, we are evaluating the applicability of a Bayesian model to account for findings in both categorical perception and the perceptual magnet effect. Our goal is for a unified account spanning the processing of vowels, fricatives, and stop consonants. In another project, we are investigating the ability of several related Bayesian models (utilizing Dirichlet Processes and Gibbs sampling) to account for experimental findings in a U-shaped developmental pattern in Spanish-Catalan bilingual children.
