Language Science Lunch Talk: Shevaun Lewis (LSC)

Time:
Thursday, October 10, 2024 - 12:15 PM to 1:30 PM
Location:
Language Science Center (2130 HJ Patterson Hall)

Pragmatics in the wild: Studying mixed-neurotype conversation

Abstract: I will report initial findings from an ongoing qualitative study exploring challenges in conversations between autistic and non-autistic people in the workplace. Pursuant to this year’s LSLT theme, I’ll also talk about how working on this very-much-applied research project (Fostering Inclusivity through Technology) has challenged my disciplinary “tastes”. At the same time, it raises a number of basic research questions that I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of, about the development of pragmatic competence and the real-time processing of pragmatic inferences.

Lunch served at 12:15 PM.
