Learning modals: Sig you guess what sig means?
Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss how children may acquire the force of their modals: that can, for example, corresponds to possibility meanings, and must to necessity meanings. We will explore different aspects of a child’s linguistic experience that may help or hinder getting to the meaning of these words, using data from a corpus study of children's early productions and their input and a Human Simulation Paradigm study.
